Football Federation Australia (FFA) is proud to announce the Australian Women's Westfield U-16 team for the AFC U-16 Women's Championship 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 23 player squad, most of whom participated in last month-s triumphant campaign at the ASEAN Football Federation's U-16 Championships in Myanmar, left today for Bangkok to complete in the tournament which also serves as the qualification campaign for the 2010 Women's U-17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.

Head Coach, Robbie Hooker, has been happy with the players preparation and was pleased to see some players get a workout in the Westfield W-League in recent weeks.

“We worked on a lot both individually and as a team in Myanmar last month and, since returning, many of the girls have had a chance to play in the Westfield W-League. This gives them a massive boost when it comes to the increased physicality and pressure of the Asian Cup in Thailand,” said Hooker.

“This is a big test for us, as we must do well in order to qualify for the Women-s U-17 World Cup next year in Trinidad and Tobago.”

“We go to Thailand to win, of course, but the World Cup is such an important goal for this whole squad. To finish well in Asia, will give us momentum going into 2010,” finished Hooker.

The Australian Women-s Westfield U-16s first game at the AFC U-16 Women's Championship is against China on 5 November, with other matches scheduled against Chinese Taipei (7 November) and Japan (9 November).
