Westfield Matildas star joins Seattle Reign in NWSL

Westfield Matildas star Steph Catley has found a new home in the USA with the defender joining Seattle Reign for the upcoming NWSL season.

Catley joins Seattle from Orlando Pride as part of a swap deal between the two clubs, with Carson Pickett and Christine Nairn moving in the other direction.

The 24-year-old joins fellow Matildas Lydia Williams and Larissa Crummer in Seattle, along with Melbourne City teammates Jodie Taylor and Jess Fishlock.

The fullback spent the 2016 and 2017 NWSL seasons with Orlando and made a total of 35 appearances, scoring one goal.

Prior to that, Catley played two seasons with Portland Thorns in 2014 and 2015.

Seattle head coach Vlatko Andonovski was thrilled to add Catley to his star-studded line-up.

“Catley is one of the best outside backs in the world and will provide a tremendous boost to our squad,” Andonovski said.

Reign finished fifth in the 2017 NWSL season, five points adrift of fourth-placed Chicago.
