The Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 has thrown up a host of mouth-watering match ups after the draw was held at Fox Sports studios earlier today, highlighted by a harbour city derby between Hyundai A-League club Sydney FC and former NSL giants Sydney United 58 FC.
Former Socceroos Alex Tobin and Paul Reid conducted the draw to decide the four Member Federation v Hyundai A-League encounters, three all-Member Federation and one all-Hyundai A-League clash.
Coached by former Sydney FC championship winning captain Mark Rudan, Sydney United 58 FC will get the chance to challenge themselves against the Sky Blues.
The other three Member Federation v Hyundai A-League fixtures feature Queensland club Olympic FC hosting the Central Coast Mariners, Victorian outfit St Albans Saints at home to Perth Glory, and a fairy tale encounter for Capital Football club Tuggeranong United who will welcome Melbourne Victory to the nation’s capital.
Adelaide United will host their second straight Westfield FFA Cup fixture as they prepare to face Brisbane Roar in the solitary all-Hyundai A-League matchup.
Of the all-Member Federation fixtures, two NSL champions will go head to head with Adelaide City up against Brisbane Strikers, while Sydney Olympic are at home to Victorian club Bentleigh Greens, and the Westfield FFA Cup’s Cinderella story South Springvale will make the trip up to the Gold Coast to take on the Palm Beach Sharks.
The specific match details in regards to dates, venues, kick-off times and broadcast details for the eight Round of 16 matches will be announced on Monday 25 August 2014 following discussions with the competition’s official broadcast partner Fox Sports and the home clubs.
The eight matches in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 will consist of four matches a night across two nights, scheduled for Tuesday 16 September and Tuesday 23 September. Fox Sports will broadcast a match on both nights of the Round of 16 and then every match from the Quarter Finals onwards.
