Wenzel-Halls wants more big-game goals for Brisbane

Dylan Wenzel-Halls might be one of the Hyundai A-League's hottest striking properties right now but the forward wants his goals to count more for Brisbane Roar.

The 21-year old joined the Roar from National Premier Leagues Queensland outfit Western Pride in pre-season and has netted four goals in his last five appearances.

“Obviously I’m happy to keep scoring,” he told media ahead of Brisbane's clash with Melbourne Victory on Saturday evening.

“As a striker all you want to do is score and each game I’m just looking to score, provide goals, score goals and just contribute to the team.

"So personally for me I want to play more 90 minute performances rather than a good 45-60 minutes, that’s something I personally want to improve on but also contribute to goals that are important.

“There’s no point in scoring a goal to make it 4-1, I want to score goals to help us win football matches.”

Victory haven’t tasted Hyundai A-League success since February 2nd's 3-2 win over Central Coast Mariners and Wenzel-Halls is looking forward to the match-up, stating that Brisbane can beat anyone on their day.

“I’m really looking forward to the game in Melbourne this weekend, obviously we had a poor result on the weekend so we’re looking to put things right,” he said.

“They’re a good opposition and it’s always a good game in Melbourne, they’ve got a lot of fans so it should be a good atmosphere and a good day for football.

“When we play our best we can beat anyone I think and we showed that when we beat Sydney, we had a very good 45 minutes against Adelaide, a very good 45 minutes against Perth but it’s more about now turning that 45 minutes into a 90 minute performance.”

Roar interim coach Darren Davies hailed the recent impact of Wenzel-Halls and said the rookie forward had grasped his opportunity with both hands.

“He’s probably played a lot more game time that we may have anticipated at the start of the season back in June," Davies said.

"But with what’s transpired, people have left and Dylan’s had significant game time recently.

"He’s in a good scoring run as well and his goal last week was another fantastic finish."
