Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that Wellington Phoenix FC have received the requisite clearances to travel to Australia to commence a period of quarantine and training ahead of the Hyundai A-League’s resumption on July 16.
Wellington Phoenix players, coaches, and staff completed their COVID-19 screenings in New Zealand earlier this week and will now travel to Australia on Saturday where they will link with their Australia-based players and foreign players Ulises Davila and Gary Hooper.
FFA has been working closely with Federal and State Authorities to expedite the appropriate clearances for the Phoenix.
FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, today thanked the Australian Border Force, NSW Police, NSW Health, and the NSW Office of Sport for assisting FFA throughout the process.
“It is great that another milestone on the way to the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season re-start has now been ticked off,” O’Rourke said.
“We would like to thank the Australian Border Force, NSW Police, NSW Health, and the NSW Office of Sport, for their diligent and swift work in helping FFA to secure this outcome for the Phoenix.
“There are also many people within FFA and Football New South Wales who helped to contribute to this solution which will enable Wellington to train at a great facility throughout their quarantine period, so we extend our appreciation to everyone involved,” he said.
The Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season is scheduled to resume on Thursday, 16 July 2020 with Melbourne Victory hosting Western United at AAMI Park in Melbourne.
Wellington Phoenix will play Sydney FC the following day at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah.
The Hyundai A-League 2019/20 regular season will conclude with 27 matches in 28 action-packed days, prior to the end of season Finals Series.
