Having stayed loyal and vocal throughout some testing times over the last couple of seasons, Perth Glory supporters are loving life at the moment! On Sunday, they saw their side continue an excellent mid-season run with a 3-0 thumping of Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.
The 3-0 win over Adelaide United on Sunday extended their unbeaten stretch to seven matches. If anyone can do the damage against Gold Coast United, it's talismanic frontman Shane Smeltz. On Sunday, he struck twice in that cracking away win and, the week earlier, did the same in front of Glory's biggest crowd of the season.
On a perfect afternoon for the Western Australians, the Shed was in incredible voice as their players simply ripped Melbourne Victory apart with some scintillating football.
Perth's attack was terrifying as they raced into a three goal lead before the interval against their shell-shocked visitors. Smeltz's early brace was clinical, and if the frontman can continue his fine form on Monday, Gold Coast United will have plenty to worry about.
Of course, United don't need to be told how deadly the German-born New Zealander is in front of goal. He struck 28 times in 38 games for them during his time at Skilled Park and was also on target in the first meeting between the two sides in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season.
In a match which perhaps best illustrated why United are stuck at the bottom of the ladder, Glory recorded their first ever win over their rivals from Queensland. Despite putting in a decent performance, a serious lack of discipline and concentration cost them in the end, as they conceded two converted penalties and had a man sent off in a 2-0 defeat.
United though, have shown signs of a possible revival in recent weeks. Their defeats generally have been narrow and they have picked up some decent draws against the likes of Melbourne Heart and, especially impressively, the leaders from the Central Coast.
Not too many weeks ago they also scored a magnificent win against current champions Brisbane Roar. So they certainly won't be a pushover on Monday.
