We aren’t interested in the maths: Raso

The message is clear from Hayley Raso: focus on Jamaica, and worry about where the Matildas finish in the final Group C standings later.

Australia meet the Reggae Girlz for the first time on Wednesday morning in what is the final group-stage match day for both sides at France 2019.

As things stand, Ante Milicic’s side lie third in Group C, with Italy – who have already booked their spot in the Round of 16 – and Brazil due to clash in Valenciennes at the same time, 5:00am AEST.

There are a range of possible outcomes that determine what each team needs from their final group-stage encounter in order to qualify for the knockout phase.

But according to Raso, 24, the Matildas aren’t concerned with the Group C permutations or the mathematics involved.

“Me personally, and probably the other girls too, [we're] just focusing on what we have right now and that is to play Jamaica,” she said.

“We can’t look too far forward because we don’t really know the possibilities of what will happen, and who will win and what the scores will be.

"For me, and for us, we are just looking at Jamaica and what we need to do and knowing that we need to win that game.

“We are still going in with the same mentality and the same attitude and we know that we need to produce a result.

“We know they’re a strong team. As a unit they’re quite powerful and agile, and we know that they’re good on the counter so we’ll work at training to stop their strength.”
