Three-time Championship winner joins Roar exodus

John Aloisi’s overhaul of his Brisbane Roar squad has continued with the announcement on Tuesday that triple Championship-winning defender Ivan Franjic was leaving the club.

Franjic re-joined Roar at the start of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season, playing 16 games as they were eliminated in the opening week of the Finals Series by Melbourne City.

The 30-year-old scored two goals during the campaign, including a stunner in the 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers at ANZ Stadium in Round 9.

"On behalf of the Brisbane Roar, I'd like to thank Ivan for his commitment and invaluable contribution to our club," Aloisi said on Roar’s website.

"He'll forever be remembered as an integral member of those Championship-winning teams that brought so much joy to our supporters.”

Franjic, who has played 20 times for the Caltex Socceroos, won three titles during his first stint with the club between 2009 and 2014.

He played in all three grand final wins in 2011, 2012 and 2014 before signing with Russian club Torpedo Moscow.

The Melbourne-born right-back is the eighth player from the 2017/18 squad to depart the Roar, joining Corey Gameiro, Mitchell Oxborrow, Jade North, Massimo Maccarone, Corey Brown, Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Michael Theo.
