Sydney FC lock-in Steve Corica’s new assistant coach

Sydney FC have made a key appointment to their coaching staff, promoting Rob Stanton to be Steve Corica’s assistant for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season.

The Sky Blues have needed to fill the role of Corica’s no.2 since Ufuk Talay’s departure to become head coach of Wellington Phoenix.

And they’ve looked internally to do it, promoting Stanton from a second assistant to the Corica’s right-hand man for next season.

Stanton has been with the Sky Blues for many years, guiding the club’s youth team to the title in 2016.

“Rob thoroughly deserves his promotion,” Corica told Sydney FC’s official website.

“His expertise was a vital cog in the wheel of our Championship win last season and we will need him again as we look to improve on last year.”

Stanton’s promotion sees former Sydney FC midfielder Paul Reid step into the role as second assistant coach.

Reid, a former coach of NSW NPL side Rockdale City, has been managing Sydney FC’s Skills Training Programs and Community Association relationships since retiring from professional football in 2013.

While Stanton and Reid have been confirmed in new roles, the Sky Blues also announced Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Advisor Mike Conway has left the club.

Conway has been with Sydney FC for three seasons and has taken up a role as Technical Director of the UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program.
