Signings news: Teenage attacker commits to Sydney FC

Sydney FC have received a boost on the eve of the Hyundai A-League Finals Series with young gun Luke Ivanovic re-signing with the club.

The 18-year-old attacker has inked a one-year contract extension, keeping him in the Harbour City until at least the end of the 2019/20 Season.

“I’m over the moon to be able to extend my stay at Sydney FC for one more season after getting my debut towards the end of last year,” Ivanovic told Sydney FC’s official website.

“It’s been an absolute dream come true to pull on the Sky Blue jersey, and I’m really enjoying playing in the Hyundai A-League after coming through the ranks here in the Academy system.

“Steve and the club have shown a lot of faith in me and getting the chance to play half a dozen games and get my first goal for the club has been awesome.

“I really hope that I can continue to play good football for Sydney FC in the coming seasons and repay the faith that they have shown in me.”

Ivanovic has come through the youth ranks at the Sky Blues to get his shot with the first team over the last year.

The pacy forward has made 11 appearances in the Hyundai A-League and three in the AFC Champions League for the club.

He capped his first-ever start in the Hyundai A-League for Sydney earlier this season against Melbourne City, by scoring inside the first 10 minutes of the match.

“Luke has come a long way in a short space of time and I’ve been impressed with his progress,” Sky Blues boss Steve Corica said.

“He’s becoming a valued member of our squad and the boys all really enjoy having him around. It’s always great to be able to give young players an opportunity and Luke has earned his spot.

“He knows that he has to continue to work hard for his spot and I have plenty of faith in him doing this for the rest of this season.”

Ivanovic is the first player born in the year 2000 or later to play for the Sky Blues.

After finishing second, Sydney FC have this weekend off before hosting a home Semi-Final on May 12 against either Melbourne Victory, Adelaide United or Melbourne City.
