Signing news: Sydney FC add pace to their squad with experienced winger

Sydney FC have bolstered their squad ahead of a busy few months with the signing of Mitch Austin for the rest of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season.

The 27-year-old joins the Sky Blues having previously played for Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners.

Austin had earlier had his contract with Hyundai A-League club Newcastle Jets terminated by mutual consent, paving the way for his move to the Harbour City.

The winger said he was looking forward to the challenges ahead with his new club.

“I’m very happy to be joining Sydney FC and it feels like I’m coming home,” Austin told Sydney FC's website.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to be joining the current Premiers and my intention is to win trophies with the club.

“Sydney FC has been the dominant force within the Hyundai A-League over the past few years and to be signing for a club with such a winning mentality is an honour.

“To get the chance to compete for a place in the AFC Champions League squad is hugely exciting for me; as is playing for the club I supported as a boy.”

Sydney FC have a packed schedule in the coming months, fighting on two fronts as they keep chase with Perth Glory in the Hyundai A-League and look to progress from the Group Stage of the AFC Asian Champions League™.

Austin is in good company at the Sky Blues, poised to play alongside former Iran international Reza Ghoochannejhad who signed on loan from Cypriot club APOEL.

Sydney FC have also released forward Charles Lokoli-Ngoy after three and a half seasons at the club.
