Signing news: Roar secure Kiwi international goalkeeper Crocombe

Brisbane Roar have picked up New Zealand international goalkeeper Max Crocombe to provide competition to the experienced Jamie Young for the number one jersey.

The 25-year-old joins Roar from recently-promoted English League two outfit Salford City.

“I’m buzzing. As soon as the opportunity came up, it was something I wanted to be a part of,” Crocombe said on Roar’s official website.

“I’m looking to make the next step in my career and take on a new challenge.

“I’ve had my eye on the Hyundai A-League for a few years, and this opportunity felt like it was the right move.”

Crocombe signed his first professional contract at just 18 years of age and has played the last seven years in England for the likes of Oxford United, Barnet, Carlisle United and Salford City.

A New Zealand youth international at U20 and U23 level, the impressive gloveman made his senior international debut last year in a friendly against Canada.

With Wellington Phoenix securing Kiwi number one Stefan Marinovic, there will be four New Zealand keepers in the Hyundai A-League next season.

“I know a lot of players in the league so I keep in touch with how it’s going,” Crocombe said.

“It’s a good standard of football, a fresh challenge for me and I can’t wait to get started and test myself.”

Roar continue their build-up to the new season on Saturday, July 20 with a friendly clash against Brisbane City.
