Signing news: Glory re-sign impressive young midfielder Brimmer

Tony Popovic continues to lock-away a host of his off-contract stars with young midfielder Jake Brimmer agreeing to a new deal with Perth Glory.

The 20-year-old, who has represented Australia at U17, U20 and U23 level, has inked a two-year extension to remain in the west.

“I’m very pleased to have re-signed and it was an easy decision to make,” Brimmer told Glory’s official website.

“I’ve improved under the manager (Popovic) this year and am really looking forward to another two seasons with Glory.

“The club has taken major steps forward this year and the future looks extremely bright.”

Melbourne-born Brimmer spent three years with Liverpool’s youth academy in England before returning to Australia with Glory at the start of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season.

He has made 33 appearances in the competition for the club.

While he has only started a handful of games this season due to the performances of Neil Kilkenny and Juande in midfield, Brimmer is seen as an exciting prospect in the west.

“He has a very bright future in the game,” Glory’s Football Director Jacob Burns said.

“He is continuing to grow and improve under the guidance of Tony Popovic and the rest of our coaching staff and being given opportunities in terms of game minutes.

“It’s fantastic to see him taking advantage of those opportunities by making an impact during those game minutes.”

Brimmer will miss Glory’s trip to Adelaide United on Friday night, away on international duty with Graham Arnold’s Australian U23 squad.
