Sam Kerr and the extra buzz that home fans bring

With just one day until the CommBank Matildas take on Canada, captain Sam Kerr spoke about the "extra buzz" that will help buoy the team against the current Olympic Champions.

Post-training yesterday, Kerr spoke about how the CommBank Matildas were continuing preparations not only for their upcoming matches against Canada but leading into the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

"Today's session was about fine-tuning our attacking principles. We don't have long in camp, and we're going over from club-land to National Team, so it's about getting everyone on the same page," she said.

For Kerr, this will be her first national team camp since facing the New Zealand Football Ferns in April, with several CommBank Matildas mainstays taking time off in the last window to rest and recover.

She explained how imperative this break was for her and her teammates, especially leading into a huge year with the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 on home soil.

"Everyone was on different schedules, and we hadn't had a break for two years, so there were a lot of us that needed some time off," she explained.

"But it's great to be back. We all love coming back to Australia and playing in front of our family, friends and amazing fans.

"Now everyone's feeling refreshed, there's a really clear path to the World Cup and where we want to be in 12 months. It's just about getting really prepared and being laser-focused," she continued.

"We're dotting all the I's and crossing all the T's because it's going to come around so quickly. We're making the most of every session and spending as much time as we can together, because team cohesion is really important."

With the CommBank Matildas matches against Canada just two days away, Kerr is excited for the buoyancy home fans will give the team, when it comes time to face the Olympic Champions.

"They're gold medallists and we have a lot of respect for their players, but I mean, we think that we play our best football at home," she explained.

"Our fans give us that extra buzz that makes us believe we can beat anyone. Canada have got a lot of injuries, but we've got to be well prepared to play them. It's going to be a good match."
