The Reds- season came to an end yesterday, following a 2-1 home defeat to Brisbane Roar, calling time on a difficult season at Hindmarsh Stadium, which also saw John Kosmina resign in controversial circumstances.
At a media conference this morning, club captain Galekovic expressed his disappointment around yesterday-s defeat to Brisbane Roar, declaring he was “gutted” by the result and pointing the finger at those in control of the club.
"I think it starts from the top and it goes all the way down and the main thing is football people need to make football decisions at this football club,” Galekovic told reporters.
"I think football people should just make those decisions - leave that for just football people.
"If there aren't any football people at this football club, maybe they've got to bring in people.
"Us boys can't change things - everything falls on us we'll take responsibility but like I said, things can be made easier as well.”
Griffin responded to Galekovic-s outburst in a club statement this afternoon, and said the goalkeeper-s frustration was shared by the club, and that the Reds board are working to change the club-s structure, starting with hiring a new head coach.
“The whole club feels the same disappointment as Eugene as to the end of our finals campaign. The board, the football department and the coaching staff intended to meet this week to review the season gone,” Griffin said.
“The coaching selection panel is in place and we are expecting to be in a position to announce the new coach in the near future. The club respects the desire of the playing group that it knows as soon as possible who the new coach will be.”
Griffin said he disagreed with Galekovic-s public venting of his feelings but admitted things would have to change if Adelaide is to not suffer the same issues next season.
“Whilst we are clearly disappointed with the forum Eugene has chosen to vent his concerns, it is a catalyst to have this open meeting to enable any other issues players and staff to be raised and dealt with.
“If at the end of this we have a more transparent and accessible club then the club will be a better place for it.”
