Ray Sandell

Born in England in 1932, Ray Sandell played with Chelsea before migrating to Australia in 1954 where he signed with Leichhardt Annandale. Following his retirement as a player in 1968, Sandell joined the Australian Soccer Referees Federation. In 1976 he was promoted to the NSW First Division Referees panel. Sandell became an NSL referee in 1980 before a knee injury forced his retirement. He held numerous positions including inspector, appointments officer, NSW ASRF president for four years and ASRF vice president for two years (and Life Member). He was a FIFA liaison officer at World Youth Cups and Olympics and is an honorary FIFA referee. Sandell is also a member of the National Appeals Board and International Match Committee.
