Pre-season round-up: Fowler gives Roar of approval, new Mariner Majok makes his mark

Two more Hyundai A-League sides got their 2019/20 pre-season campaigns underway this weekend with both Brisbane Roar and Central Coast Mariners celebrating strong wins.

New head coach Robbie Fowler has given his Brisbane side the thumbs up after their first outing of the 2019/20 pre-season.

The Roar triumphed 3-0 against NPL Queensland outfit Redlands United in front of 2,100 spectators at Logan Metro Sports Park.

Mirza Muratovic and Rahmat Akbari put Brisbane two goals up at half-time and new signing Aaron Amadi-Holloway added one more after the interval.

“We’ve been back a couple of weeks now working to implement what we did on the pitch, I think it’s been good today,” Fowler said.

“It was a good performance, a few little things to work on but I think the general play today was fantastic. I'm delighted with how the lads went.

“Everyone knows how good and how special this club can be, to turn out in our training venue and get 2,000 people here to come and watch us, I think that’s first class.”

Majok makes a fine first impression

Head coach Alen Stajcic watched his Central Coast side rally either side of the interval to down FFA Cup Round of 32 contestants Manly United 4-1 at Pluim Park.

After Brendan Cholakian had given the team from Sydney’s Northern Beaches a 10th-minute lead, Matt Simon levelled on 42 minutes and Giancarlo Gallifuoco made it 2-1 soon after.

Former Western Sydney Wanderer Abraham Majok pulled on a Mariners jersey for the first time and struck twice in quick succession to wrap up a resounding victory.
