Phoenix youngster Singh in FIFA 19 Team of the Week

Wellington Phoenix youngster Sarpreet Singh has been rewarded for his incredible performance in Round 21 of the Hyundai A-League, earning a spot in the latest FIFA 19 Team of the Week.

The Kiwi international made the star-studded squad for his two goals and two assists in Wellington’s 8-2 demolition of Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night.


He became the first Phoenix player to be involved in as many goals in one match, and the first time since Alessandro Del Piero scored four and had an assist in one game back in 2013.

And the 20-year-old joins some elite company, with the likes of Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, Bayern Munich star James Rodriguez and England international Jamie Vardy also in the squad.

Singh is not the first Hyundai A-League player to make the FIFA 19 Team of the Week in recent times.

He joins the likes of teammate Roy Krishna, Victory’s Kosta Barbarouses, Adelaide’s Craig Goodwin, Sydney FC skipper Alex Brosque and City gloveman Eugene Galekovic to have earned selection earlier this season.

Singh has enjoyed a breakout season in the competition, scoring five times and picking up six assists for Mark Rudan’s men.

He has been rewarded with a 75-rated in-form card, with pace his leading strength, earning an impressive rating of 88.

His passing (79), dribbling (78) and shooting (74) are also pretty impressive numbers.

Singh will next be in action for the fourth-placed Phoenix on Sunday when they host Western Sydney Wanderers at Westpac Stadium, with kick-off at 5pm (AEDT).
