Young striker Chris Payne is on the lookout for a new club after terminating his contract with Newcastle Jets.
Payne, 21, has struggled to make an impact at the Jets since arriving from the now-defunct North Queensland Fury, and the former Sydney FC star has only made one appearance under Gary van Egmond.
The club announced on Friday afternoon that his contract had been terminated by "mutual agreement".
"We wish Chris all the best in his future career and will continue to assist him to find another Club," CEO Robbie Middleby said.
After a bright start to his career at Sydney under former coach John Kosmina, it's been a long journey for Payne, spending two seasons in Townsville before joining Newcastle when Branko Culina was still the coach.
Payne revealed his frustration that "a change in circumstances" at the Jets had limited his opportunities but insisted there was no ill-feeling behind the decision.
"I am disappointed that due to a change in circumstances at Newcastle that my time at the club has been cut short and has not worked out the way that I planned,” Payne said.
“I want to wish the rest of the boys in the squad all the best, and I will now look to further my career at a new club and achieve my goals as I have a lot of ambition and can hopefully fulfil it with a new team."
