Olympic continue on road to FFA Cup 2019 Final against Nepean

A team from the fourth-tier of football in NSW will aim to be the next fairytale story in the FFA Cup as the 2019 competition edges closer to the Round of 32.

In one of seven Round 6 matches in NSW this week, State League outfit Nepean FC take on NPL champions Sydney Olympic at Cook Park on Tuesday night.

Olympic are the current focus of our Road to the 2019 Final and we were there as they booked their spot in this round with a 2-0 win over Stanmore Hawks at Peter Moore Field in Round 5.

While Abbas Saad’s Olympic suffered a shock loss to Sydney FC in the NPL on the weekend, they’ll be heavily fancied to march on in the FFA Cup with a win in Sydney’s west.

But as we’ve seen many times in this competition in recent years, you can never discount the #MagicoftheCup to throw up a surprise.

We’ll have all the action from Tuesday’s clash right here on www.theffacup.com.au, and we’ll continue to follow the winner of each tie all the way along the Road to the FFA Cup Final 2019.

Which club will follow in the footsteps of APIA Leichhardt Tigers?

The big story of the 2018 FFA Cup was undoubtedly NSW NPL club APIA who played host to mighty Melbourne Victory in the Round of 16 in August and sent the Hyundai A-League champions back to Victoria with their tails between their legs after a 3-2 defeat.

APIA were unable to repeat their Victory giant-killing act at the quarter-final stage in 2018, losing 2-0 to eventual winners Adelaide United, while Victorian sides Avondale FC – who took holders Sydney FC to extra-time before losing 4-2 – and Heidelberg United also dropped out in the last eight.

Will Olympic be the club that generates national headlines by being the giant-killing story of this year’s competition?
