Melbourne City’s Westfield W-League winning manager Joe Montemurro has been appointed as the new coach of Arsenal’s Women’s Football Team.
In huge recognition of Montemurro’s reputation as a coach, the 48-year-old will take over as manager of the huge FA Women’s Super League side in England immediately.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the players and the staff at Melbourne City for the incredible opportunities and the memories,” Montemurro said.
“The club has always been supportive and allowed me to develop and grow both professionally and personally.
"I feel honoured and humbled to join Arsenal. I’m excited by the challenge and I am really looking forward to working with the talented staff and players at this great club.”
Montemurro has been a huge factor in City’s Westfield W-League success, guiding the club to an unbeaten Championship-Premiership double in their inaugural 2015/16 Season.
He was part of the club’s staff again last season as City went back-to-back in the Westfield W-League, while also assisting Michael Valkanis in the Hyundai A-League during the 2016/17 campaign.
Montemurro has come through the ranks at City, progressing from the club’s youth academy system, before going on to the Westfield W-League team and Hyundai A-League assistant.
Montemurro has worked with a number of world-class players, including Arsenal star Kim Little during his time at City.
“Joe is a great manager. I really enjoyed working with him previously and I think that he has the qualities that we need to help us achieve our goals, and ultimately win more trophies,” Little said on Arsenal’s official website.
