Champions League berths, key early league points are the up for grabs as a several Westfield Matildas get ready to feature across Europe this weekend.
England
The Westfield Matildas were in midweek action as the FA Women’s League Cup completed Match Day 2.
Sam Kerr started and played 58 minutes for Chelsea in their 2-0 win over Alanna Kennedy’s Tottenham Hotspur. Kennedy started on the bench and was subbed into the match in the 66th minute. Despite the loss, Tottenham remained in second position in Group B, while Chelsea maintained their perfect record and top spot.
Caitlin Foord continued to build her partnership with Vivianne Miedema with the two again combining in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over London City. The Westfield Matildas forward played 90 minutes as Arsenal stayed in the hunt to progress out of the group.
The Aussies were in the thick of the action for West Ham against Reading FC. Both Mackenzie Arnold and Emily van Egmond started for the Hammers and notched up 90 minutes.
The duo had a say in the 3-0 result with Arnold making a crucial penalty and Van Egmond scoring the Hammer’s second goal. The Hammers remain on top of Group D thanks to the result.
Meanwhile Chloe Logarzo continued her League Cup goalscoring form. The Westfield Matildas midfielder netted a brace for Bristol City as they overran Crystal Palace 4-2. Two wins from two starts leaves the Robins on top of Group F.
Due to damage caused by high winds, Hayley Raso and Everton’s FA Cup match against Manchester United was postponed to a later date.
After a break for the international window and the Women’s FA Cup Final, the Women’s Super League resumes this weekend.
Kennedy and Tottenham will be aiming to bounce back from the midweek disappointment when they take on Reading FC (Sunday, 1:00am AEST). Tottenham is currently sitting in ninth place, while Reading are in sixth.
Raso’s Everton, currently sitting in second place, will be looking for a win against fourth placed Chelsea (Sunday, 11:00pm AEST). With Chelsea only three points behind the Toffees, Kerr and her side will be looking to bridge that gap while Everton can get some breathing space.
League leaders Arsenal will come up against Manchester United who are only two points behind them. Foord will be looking to make an impact to keep her side in front.
Logarzo's Bristol City will take on newly crowned Women's FA Cup winners Manchester City (Sunday, 2:00am AEDT). Meanwhile, Arnold and Van Egmond’s West Ham will take on Birmingham City (Monday, 1:00am AEDT).
France
After defeating Montpellier 5-0 in last week’s Division 1 Feminine match, Ellie Carpenter’s Olympique Lyonnais are setting their sights on Soyaux-Charente.
Mary Fowler’s Montpellier will be looking to redeem themselves against Dijon, while Laura Brock’s side Guingamp will take on Paris FC.
Netherlands
PSV Eindhoven will take on Ado Den Haag this week (Sunday, 10:15pm AEDT) as they get ready for a big month of football which will include the UEFA Women's Champions League. Kyah Simon and Amy Harrison will be looking to continue their strong league form at home.
Norway
Things are certainly heating up in the Toppserien, with matchday 17 seeing Katrina Gorry and Clare Polkinghorne’s Avaldsnes taking on Klepp (Saturday, 11:00pm AEDT). With Avaldsnes in third place on 31 points, they can still mathematically challenge for the title and the Champions League, if results go their way.
Although Karly Roestbakken’s fourth placed LSK Kvinner can’t top the table, they have the opportunity to add a few more points to their name if triumphant over Kolbotn (Saturday, 11:00pm AEDT).
Spain
After last week’s debut, Jenna McCormick will again be looking to get match minutes for her side Real Betis as they take on Rayo Vallecano ( in Round 6 of the Primera Division.
Alex Chidiac and Atletico Madrid will be back at home this weekend as they host Sporting Huelva (Monday, 2.15am AEDT)
While Aivi Luik and Sevilla will close out the round against Deportivo on road (Monday, 5am AEDT).
Sweden
Emily Gielnik’s Vittsjo will take on KIF Orebro DFF (Sunday at 1:00am AEST) as they look to get back to winning ways in an important fifth vs sixth match.
