Matildas Abroad Preview: Midweek action across the UWCL and Conti Cup

Our Matildas Abroad are back in action, with midweek fixtures in the UEFA Women's Champions League and the Conti Cup.

Olympic Qualifiers Buy Now

UWCL

Kicking off with the UWCL, Clare Hunt could be in line to make her first appearance for PSG as they take on Manchester United in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Hunt has been included in the matchday squad for the first time since signing for the French giants in September from the Western Sydney Wanderers. A win for PSG over UWCL debutants Manchester United will see Hunt's side go into the second leg next week with the advantage. 

 This game will kick off on Wednesday morning at 6:00 am AEDT and will be shown live on MUTV and ManUtd.com.

Meanwhile, Aivi Luik’s BK Häcken will host Dutch side FC Twente in their first leg of the second qualifying round. FC Twente booked their spot in the second round of qualifying after beating SK Sturm Graz 6-0 and then advancing to the next stage after a 3-2 win over Levante. 

This game will kick off on Thursday morning at 3:30 am AEDT. 

Wrapping up in the UWCL, Hayley Raso's Real Madrid will host Norwegian side Vålerenga in their first leg, with Raso looking to build on her one goal and three appearances for Madrid in Liga F. 

Real Madrid narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals of the UWCL last season, finishing third in their group that featured Chelsea and PSG and will be looking to go one better in the 2023/24 season. 

This game will kick off on Thursday morning at 5:00 am AEDT and will be shown on Real Madrid TV. 

Conti Cup

The Conti Cup returns for another season in England, kicking off in Group B, Clare Wheeler’s Everton will kick off their campaign against Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy’s Manchester City.

While the other Group B fixture will see Courtney Nevin’s Leicester City host Teagan Micah’s Liverpool. Both games will kick off on Thursday morning at 5:00 am AEDT, with Everton streaming their game on Kick.

In Group E, Mackenzie Arnold’s West Ham host Women's Championship side Charlton Athletic in their first game of the Conti Cup campaign. The Hammers were knocked out of the 2022/23 Conti Cup season in the semi-finals, going down 7-0 to a dominant Chelsea, while Charlton Athletic were unable to progress past the group stages.

This game will kick off on Thursday morning at 5:30 am AEDT.

Mexico

Alex Chidiac's Tigres UANL will play Cruz Azul on Friday, with Tigres looking to bounce back from their 0-0 stalemate throughout the week that sees them just two points clear at the top of the table, with Club América ready to pounce. 

This game will kick off on Friday at 1:00 pm AEDT and will be available to watch via the Tigres UANL's Facebook Page.
