Matchweek 7 preview: Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix will be seeking to build on their first win of the A-League season when they go up against defending Premiers, Sydney FC, on Monday.

The Sky Blues historically have an edge over the New Zealanders, going unbeaten in their last six and winning 10 of the previous 13 contests between the teams, while a pair of wonder-goals from Luke Brattan and Calem Nieuwenhof  earned them a 2-1 triumph over the ‘Nix in Round 2.

However, Steve Corica’s side have only claimed one victory from their last five outings at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium and former Sky Blues favourite Ufuk Talay will be desperate to keep the confidence flowing from Wellington's 2-1 triumph over the Central Coast Mariners in Matchweek 6.

Sydney have collected seven points from their opening four games so far, with their only defeat coming in their last runout on their own turf in Kogarah against the Mariners. Phoenix will be keen to pile on the misery in the Harbour City and take consecutive wins back to their temporary home in Wollongong.
