Match preview: Kuwait v Caltex Socceroos

Australia's road to Qatar begins at the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium in the early hours of Wednesday morning (AEST).

The Caltex Socceroos begin their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 journey against Kuwait at 1:30am.

Kuwait – ranked 156th in the world – were the opposition when the Graham Arnold tenure commenced back in October 2018.

The green and gold secured a 4-0 victory on that day, courtesy of goals from Apostolos Giannou, Tom Rogic, Awer Mabil and an own goal from Kuwaiti defender Khalid El Ebrahim.

This time, when Arnold’s men return to the Persian Gulf, they will be looking to kick start their road to Qatar in the strongest way possible.

What they said

Caltex Socceroos Head Coach Graham Arnold

"We've had a great week's preparation in Dubai. We had the players there for a week and we worked extremely hard. We're ready for the game.

"We've watched all of Kuwait's games since we got the World Cup draw over the past few months. We've seen what their strengths and what their weaknesses are. I’m always a coach and person that focuses what I can control, and that is my team, and making sure we are ready for what Kuwait's strengths are, but also, to expose their weaknesses."
