Match preview: Caltex Socceroos v Chinese Taipei

One down, one to go. The Caltex Socceroos put on a show against Nepal in the first of two FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers this window and now head to Chinese Taipei for the next challenge on Tuesday night.

Australia’s comfortable 5-0 win in Canberra on Thursday night has Graham Arnold’s side on top of the Group B standings on the road to Qatar.

But away fixtures are never easy and Australia will need to produce another strong performance against the 129th-ranked Chinese Taipei at the Kaohsiung National Stadium.

With two wins, eight goals scored and none conceded it’s been a perfect start to qualifying by the Caltex Socceroos and they’ll be hungry for more success on Tuesday night.

What they said

Caltex Socceroos Head Coach Graham Arnold

“After only two training sessions that we’ve had in that attacking way.... We created plenty of chances [against Nepal] but we’ve got to be more ruthless when it counts.

“I was a little bit frustrated at times when we did get the ball forward early, we went backwards.

“Against teams that play with a packed defence, when you do get it forward you have to continue going forward, otherwise they get men behind the ball and make it difficult for you.”
