Match preview: Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar travel to Adelaide United’s Marden Sports Complex on Friday night knowing anything less than a win will end their chances of pursuing back-to-back Westfield W-League Premierships.

Mel Andreatta’s side have been in the mix throughout the campaign, but have recently shown the form that saw them finish on top last season.

Get Onside

It’s all sunshine and roses in Brisbane: Clare Polkinghorne recently celebrated her 10th season with the club, while Hayley Raso now has her first start and goal for the season.

Allira Toby is looking as dangerous as ever, while Yuki Nagasato is consistently showing the form that has earned her international esteem and pedigree.

Roar v Reds

To top things off, the side are coming off a comprehensive 4-1 win over Canberra United in Round 13, offering them the perfect platform heading into the finals.

For Adelaide, this game is nothing more than a dead rubber. Ivan Karlovic’s side began the season so strongly and had a foothold in the top four until recent weeks.

Now sitting in sixth spot, the end will be bittersweet for the Reds.

Despite accruing a club record amount of points this campaign, you can’t help but feel a sense of what could have been for Adelaide, considering the leaps and bounds they’ve made over the past 12 months.

Regardless, the Reds must pick themselves up and dust themselves off to face the music.

The squad provided so many positives during the 2018/19 Season that they can no doubt use to drive their 2019/20 campaign.
