Ljubo expected to join Perth Glory

Former Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory man Ljubo Milicevic is expected to re-join Perth Glory after leaving Melbourne Knights on Monday.

Former Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory man Ljubo Milicevic is expected to re-join Perth Glory after leaving Melbourne Knights on Monday.

Milicevic played for Glory between 1999 and 2001, at the outset of a career which has taken him to FC Zurich, FC Thun and Young Boys in Switzerland, as well as brief spells at South Melbourne and Hajduk Split.

Now 32, the talented centre-back impressed for Australia at Under-20 and Under-23 level, and went on to make eight appearances for the senior team, but a combination of fitness problems and personal issues prevented the Melbourne-born player from fulfilling his early promise.

Speculation had linked Milicevic with a return to Jets, as well as a switch to Western Australia, and it now appears Alistair Edwards' Glory side have secured his services for the A-League campaign ahead, although the club are yet to officially confirm the transfer.

"After a pleasant four months together, the Melbourne Knights wish centre back Ljubo Milicevic the best of luck as he joins Perth Glory for the 2013/2014 A-League season," the Knights said in a statement.

"After a brief stint with Croatian giant Hajduk Split, Ljubo joined the Knights in April of this year where he was welcomed by players and fans alike.

"He made nine appearances for the club and played an important role in shoring up the Knights backline.

"We are greteful [sic] for Ljubo's time at the club where he will always be welcome to return."
