Krishna at the double for five-star Nix

Roy Krishna struck twice as Wellington Phoenix stepped up their Hyundai A-League preparations with a 5-0 victory over Napier City Rovers.

The New Zealand Central League champions welcomed the Nix to Palmerston North as part of a Festival of Football at the Central Energy Trust Arena, and the Hyundai A-League side got the ball rolling in style.

Mark Rudan’s side rallied in the first half, opening the scoring in the third minute through Nathan Burns’ lobbed shot. Krishna put the finishing touch on triallist Yoo Byung Soo’s 28th minute delivery, before Yoo added the third goal four minutes later from Tom Doyle’s cross.

Doyle turned from provider to finisher on the stroke of half-time, shooting across goal to put the result beyond doubt, while Krishna converted from the penalty spot on 71 minutes to make it 5-0.

Napier City had a chance to strike back in the closing minutes but new Pheonix goalkeeper Filip Kurto saved a penalty from Martin Bueno.

Next up for Phoenix is a match against at Central League select in Raumati Beach next Saturday 1 September, before a 10-day intensive closed-door training camp in Australia as preparations ramp up ahead of the 2018-19 season.
