Katrina Gorry joins West Ham United

CommBank Matildas' midfielder Katrina Gorry has officially signed for West Ham United for the rest of the Barclays Women's Super League season, making the move from Vittsjö GIK following her contract ending in Sweden.

Gorry joins the likes of Mackenzie Arnold already representing the Hammers, with the goalkeeper captaining the side. The midfielder will look to bring her vast experience to a struggling West Ham United side that has only recorded one win so far in the WSL and is avoiding sitting at the bottom of the table by goal difference.

The midfielder has spent the last two seasons with Vittsjö GIK in Sweden, playing alongside fellow Aussies Charli Grant and Clare Polkinghorne. Gorry made 41 appearances for the side and scored 7 goals in her stint in Sweden.

“I’m really pleased to sign for West Ham United,” Gorry told West Ham TV.

“The Club spoke my language. West Ham is a family Club and that was a big factor for me wanting to join. I’ve felt the support from everyone straight away and there is no better place for me to be right now."

“The Women’s Super League is the league everyone is speaking about at the moment. I want to challenge myself and play against and with the best players in the world," she said.

Gorry is West Ham United's third signing in the last month, with the Hammers' stocks being bolstered by the inclusion of Kristie Mewis and Shelina Zadorsky in the squad. West Ham United will be set for the ultimate test when they return from break, taking on the reigning Women's FA Cup champions, Chelsea, in the fourth round of the competition on the 15th of January at 12:00am AEDT.
