'Just like Arzani', but City starlet Najjarine is his own man

Their styles and stories might be similar but Ramy Najjarine is his own man, not the new Daniel Arzani according to Melbourne City teammate Lachlan Wales.

Najjarine, 19, has been used sparingly by City boss Warren Joyce this season but offered a glimpse of his explosive talent with a late screamer in his side’s 5-0 win over Central Coast Mariners on Friday.

His stoppage-time stunner – the former Western Sydney Wanderers youth’s maiden Hyundai A-League strike – was the sort of magic which prompted teammate Luke Brattan to compare Najjarine to current Celtic and Caltex Socceroos prodigy Arzani last December.

But Wales, Najjarine’s close friend and roommate believes the latest talent to step off the City production line wants to blaze his own trail.

“He can beat players one on one just like Arzani,” Wales told FOX Sports.

“He wants to make a name for himself which is fair.

“I think he’s sick of being compared to him and just wants to make a name for himself. That’s probably the best way to do it.

“He’s a good kid and I’m proud of him for getting that goal. He deserves it.
