Jets appoint Scottish legend Miller as club’s Technical Director

Newcastle Jets have officially unveiled ex-Scottish international Kenny Miller as part of Carl Robinson’s coaching staff, taking on the role as the club’s senior Technical Director.

Miller, who enjoyed a storied career with the likes of Rangers, Celtic and Wolverhampton Wanderers, will work closely alongside Robinson as they aim to resurrect the Jets’ fortunes.

The pair were former teammates at Wolves in England, while they also worked together at the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS between 2012 and 2014.

“Carl and I have been close for 20 years, I’ve worked with him when he was a player and when he was a manager,” Miller said on the Jets’ official website.

“When the opportunity came up for me to join him here in Newcastle and continue my development as a coach, I was keen to take it with both hands.

“Carl sees success in the near future here in Newcastle, and I want to do all I can to help make that happen.”

Miller, who scored 18 goals in 69 appearances for Scotland, only retired from playing last month after departing SPL side Partick Thistle.

The 40-year-old does have some coaching experience, having a short stint as a player/manager with Livingston in mid-2018.

He had seven games in charge of the Scottish side, recording three wins, two draws, and two defeats.

“Kenny Miller has pedigree, he’s played for some big clubs, and I think he’s a great addition to the staff,” Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna said.

“As Senior Technical Director for the Hyundai A-League side, he’ll assist assisting Carl in his day-to-day duties as well as working with our Academy Technical Director, Craig Deans.”
