It might be her first Westfield W-League season, but you cannot question the lofty ambitions of Adelaide United’s new teenage superstar, Mary Fowler.
Since making her international debut for the Westfield Matildas aged just 15 back in 2018, Fowler has rocketed the national spotlight.
And Australian football fans will get their best look yet at the ultra-talented forward born in Cairns when Fowler, now 16, lines up for Adelaide United for the new Westfield W-League campaign.
Despite having four international appearances under her belt, Fowler has not yet featured on the stage of Australia’s top tier.

That is all about to change when she dons the red of Adelaide, who will hope Fowler can help the club from the City of Churches secure their first-ever Finals Series berth.
“I can go to the club and help create something they haven’t done before, and help them to achieve the goals they haven’t yet been able to achieve,” Fowler, not short on confidence, told www.wleague.com.au.
Although this is Fowler’s maiden bow in the Westfield W-League she is no stranger to elite club environments, having trialled with FA Women’s Super League clubs Chelsea, Manchester City and West Ham United in 2018.
“I’ve already been with clubs that are at the top, so going into the W-League… it is my first professional league but I’m looking forward to it, I just want to get out there and get started.”
Fowler, who last played for NPL NSW Women’s outfit Bankstown City, is not making the trip to Adelaide alone.
She’ll be joined at the Ivan Karlovic-coached club by elder sister, Ciara, a midfielder by trade.
“It’s really something special, we do a lot of training together so getting to go out on the pitch and show everyone what we can do, it will be something special,” she said.
Although Fowler’s emergence on the scene has drawn some comparisons to Westfield Matildas captain Sam Kerr, the teenager says her playing style is reminiscent of Brazil star Marta.
“We’re both dribblers and we both just create, really.
“You can’t tell someone how to do something like that, you just kind of go out and do It. I like her in that sense, in her creativity and boldness to do what others are sometimes afraid to do.”
Fowler is half Marta’s age but shares the same self-assurance and flair. It is this confidence in her ability that has seen the former Saints FC junior record impressive scoring rates for the Young Matildas.
She’s looking to be just as lethal in the Westfield W-League.
“That’s all I do when I get on the pitch, I just want to score.
“The only pressure you have is the pressure you put on yourself. I’m focusing on winning, when you have such a dominant thought about doing that then the rest doesn’t matter, you just want to achieve what you set out to do.”
