Holly McNamara awarded the Young Footballer of the Year at the Dolan Warren Awards

Holly McNamara has been named the Young Footballer of the Year at the Dolan Warren Awards last night in Sydney.

The Melbourne City striker, in her first Liberty A-League Women season, has walked away with her first accolade after a breakout debut season in City blue.

McNamara, who made her debut for Australia earlier this year at the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup, scored five goals for City in their run to the Liberty A-League Women semi-finals. 

Unfortunately, after her debut was sidelined due to injury, a devastating blow saw the young forward forced to end her inaugural season early when she ruptured her ACL against Sydney FC in late February. 

The striker was just three points shy of claiming the Julie Dolan award alongside her Young Footballer of the Year gong.

McNamara has had a whirlwind few months, signing her first professional contract with Melbourne City and a call up to Australia’s 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup squad.
