Highly-rated American defender signs for Perth Glory

Perth Glory have signed promising defender Katie Naughton for the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season.

Naughton joins Glory off the back of a fantastic 2018 National Women's Soccer League campaign with Chicago Red Stars, in which the 24-year-old made 24 appearances and clinched the club's best defender award.

The defender has spent the last two Westfield W-League seasons with Adelaide United.

"I'm excited to see what this new season has in store," Naughton told Glory's official website, "especially since I'll be with a new team and in a new environment.

"I've heard so many amazing things about the city of Perth and I can't wait to experience it for myself alongside my teammates.

"I feel confident going into this season with what I've heard about this team and the calibre of players that we have and I can't wait to get started."

Glory boss Bobby Despotovski said Naughton's signing is a significant boost for Glory's upcoming 2018/19 campaign.

"Katie's been in the league before and is a proven performer," he said.

"She's a composed, ball-playing defender who will really stabilise the backline and her arrival means that we'll have great competition for those central defensive spots.

"Her form for Chicago has been excellent and we're confident that she'll continue to show that form with us."
