English-born Fred Robins devoted most of his soccer life to coaching. After playing in the UK civil service competition and with various navy teams, he passed the English FA Senior Award course in 1968. Shortly after he emigrated to Australia, settling in Queensland. Following his involvement with clubs teams, Robins became Queensland Coaching Association president from 1977 to 1985. He completed the Australian Senior Award in 1972 and the FIFA Advanced Course in 1998. He was head coach of the Australian women’s national team during the second half of the decade, and also state and youth teams, winning national and overseas honours. He was acknowledged as a hard taskmaster who instilled knowledge and fitness in his players. From 1970 to 1993 he took part in coaching courses and clinics.
