Football NSW Announces Women’s Squad for Queensland Clash

Football NSW has officially announced the 16 players that will represent the NSW Women’s team against Queensland on Saturday 12th December at Perry Park.

Together with Football Queensland, Football NSW announced this exciting new initiative, and more recently confirmed that 2019 NPL NSW Women’s Coach of the Year, Northern Tigers’ Jason Eagar would lead the team for the game in Brisbane.

Former Matildas star Servet Uzunlar has accepted the role of Assistant Coach working under Eagar with the team set to be managed by Nadine Shiels of Football NSW.

W-League and Young Matildas National Team camp commitments have ruled a number of players out who’ve had to decline their selection, but Eagar has moved swiftly in recruiting some equally talented stars ready for battle against our northern neighbours.

“The NSW squad has a healthy mix of experience and youth that will provide a great test for Queensland," he told footballnsw.com.au

"The girls representing NSW are in form players coming out of a very competitive NPL NSW Women’s competition.

“Our preparation will consist of getting the players ready for anything that Queensland throw at us and we’ll have a few surprises for them.

“Having the experience of someone like Servet (Uzunlar) as part of the coaching staff is another important factor to set the girls up to succeed.”

Thrilled players were also looking forward to representing the NSW State with pride after winning selection into Eagar’s squad.

“It’s a huge honour to be selected in the NSW side and one I am really looking forward to,” said Northern Tigers’ ace striker Daisy Arrowsmith.

“I know most of the girls from playing against them over the years and I am really excited to be in the same team as them, I cannot wait for this game."

Sydney University FC’s experienced star Rachael Soutar saw this fixture as an ideal opportunity to unearth some quality young NSW female football stars on the national stage.

“It is very exciting to have won selection for this huge match. The game will be a great platform to showcase the talent from our NPL NSW Women’s top tier competition and we hope to come away with the win against Queensland.”

While APIA Leichhardt’s quality defender Alexandra Tims was hoping to bring back the Cup NSW’s way.

“I am honoured and it’s a privilege to represent your state at any time but it being the State of Origin match brings so much more excitement to it and one I cannot wait to be a part of.”

The squad will now commence training using Football NSW’s Valentine Sports Park in preparation for the game before departing for Brisbane the morning of the match on the 12th of December.
