Associations minnows Tarrawanna Blueys SC are through to Round 7 of Football NSW’s preliminary qualifying after they downed Kirrawee Kangaroos 2-1 in a big night of FFA Cup action across the country.
With games also being played in Northern NSW, Canberra, Northern Territory and Queensland on Wednesday, it was a night which also saw FNSW giants Sydney United 58 FC crash out and an 11-goal thriller in Alice Springs.
Sydney United, who are four-time FFA Cup participants and have progressed to the Round of 16 three times, fell on Wednesday night to Rockdale City Suns FC.
Rockdale had taken the lead in the 24th minute via a Bai Antoniou strike before Sydney United hit back soon after half-time thanks to Yianni Perkatis. But with time ticking away, Rockdale struck in the 86th minute to knock out their NSW National Premier League 1 rivals.
Elsewhere, Marconi Stallions FC survived an early scare against SD Raiders FC to progress 4-1, scoring four goals in 10 minutes to come from behind.
In the match between Football South Coast Association clubs Kirrawee Kangaroos and Tarrawanna Blueys, the Blueys survived a nervy ending to hang on and progress thanks to two goals in the opening 16 minutes.
And in Northern Territory, Alice Springs Celtic FC defeated Stormbirds SC 6-5.
