Ex-Wanderers boss now coaching in India

Former Western Sydney Wanderers coach Josep Gombau is the new coach of Indian Super League club Delhi Dynamos.

Gombau has agreed to a two-year deal in Delhi, just months after he was shown the door by the Wanderers.

The former Barcelona Youth Team coach spent less than a season at Western Sydney, departing after the club failed to reach the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season Finals Series.

As well as his time at the Wanderers, Gombau has been the assistant coach for the Caltex Socceroos, as well as coaching Australia’s U23 team.

The 42-year-old had most of his success in the Hyundai A-League in his two seasons with Adelaide United, guiding the club to back-to-back Finals Series in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

He also guided the Reds to the 2014 FFA Cup title.

Interestingly, Gombau was shortlisted by two other ISL clubs for the upcoming season but could not get the league's approval, leading them to hire other candidates.

As a result, Delhi had to seek a 'no-objection' with the two clubs in question before getting clearance from ISL.

The Dynamos are looking to rebuild under Gombau after finishing eight in the ISL last season.
