The Melbourne Derby has a fresh feel to it heading into 2019/20 with two new head coaches vying for supremacy in Victoria's capital.
Marco Kurz is able field a new-look Victory attack featuring Caltex Socceroos stars Andrew Nabbout and Robbie Kruse, while City chief Erick Mombaerts has promised an all-new positive outlook to banish the memories of last season's goal-shy side.
Despite City's struggles in 2018/19, Victory were unable to secure a win over their neighbours. The German and the French tacticians will be eager to bring the local bragging rights to their new clubs and endear themselves to the passionate Melbournian supporters.

The first-ever Sydney derby at the brand new Bankwest Stadium is certainly going to be a spicy one.
Markus Babbel’s Western Sydney Wanderers FC will be desperate to create some lasting memories at the new Wanderland, having not recorded a win over their Harbour City rivals in their three contests last season.
Michael Zullo has already vowed that the derby is ‘going to be even better this year’ and Sydney FC will be hellbent on leaving their mark on enemy territory.
Add in the mix that former Red and Black favourite Alex Baumjohann will be pulling on a Sky Blue jersey. That should make for an intense atmosphere in the Parramatta cauldron.

Melbourne supporters are likely still having nightmares about the last time these teams met in the 6-1 Semi Final humbling at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.
That was the last Victory fans saw of club icon Kevin Muscat. New head coach Kurz will be desperate to start his Big Blue legacy in a less embarrassing manner when these fierce rivals meet in Round 6.

The Central Coast Mariners thought they had hit rock bottom following an 8-2 home thumping by Wellington Phoenix in March.
Enter new head coach Alen Stajcic, who captured the hearts of the Yellow and Blue supporters from day one when the basement dwellers turned over their adversaries from up the F3, 3-2, in the Jets' own backyard.
With that run to the 2018 Grand Final still flickering in the memories of the Newcastle faithful, Ernie Merrick's charges will be aiming to launch a bounce-back season and extract a measure of revenge over the double wooden spooners in Round 2.
These New South Wales rivals will believe that coming out on top of this battle will go a long way to addressing their recent struggles in 2019/20.

New Melbourne Victory coach Kurz does not seem like a bitter man but it would be hard to believe the German would not enjoy a taste of schadenfreude against his former employers.
The FFA Cup 2018 winners were a penalty shootout away from the 2018/19 Grand Final under Kurz's stewardship, but the decision had already been made by the South Australians to let their leader walk away at the end of the campaign.
Kurz will know the strengths and weaknesses of his former club inside out, but new head coach Gertjan Verbeek will be seeking to take the Reds to another level - following promises they will play like Ajax.

Robbie Fowler's side take Hyundai A-League football north to the newly-developed Dolphin Stadium for the first time in 2019/20.
A regular home for the Roar's Westfield W-League side, the boutique Redcliffe venue did host an FFA Cup Round of 32 clash between Brisbane and Melbourne City last season.
On that night, Bruno Fornaroli snatched an extra-time winner for the visitors. The same two teams meet with points at stake in Round 6.

Themed Rounds
Remembrance Round
Friday 8 November to Sunday 10 November
Round 5 of the Hyundai A-League is devoted to acknowledging the sacrifices made by the men and women of the armed services during times of war.
A pre-match ceremony will be observed at all five matches over the weekend of November 8-10 ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday 11 November.
There are three matches in Victoria in Remembrance Round. Melbourne City host Central Coast on Friday, Western Sydney Wanderers go to Western United on Saturday and Melbourne Victory face Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.

The Hyundai A-League will celebrate Play Football Round in Round 18 of the 2019/20 Season.
The round – played from Friday 14 February to Sunday 16 February is used to promote football registrations around Australia for the upcoming grassroots season.
There is a derby theme this rebel Play Football Round, with the Melbourne Derby kicking it off on the Friday, the Sydney Derby headlining the Saturday and the F3 Derby between Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners wrapping up the weekend on Sunday.

Friday 13 March to Sunday 15 March
Round 23 celebrates women in football and the extensive impact they play at all levels of the game, to coincide with Female Football Week.
A key objective of Female Football Round is to drive female participation, while also acknowledging the large number of women who are currently actively involved in the game in any capacity.
The round follows International Women's Day, which is on Sunday 8 March, and features an encounter between the Champions, Sydney FC, and the Premiers, Perth Glory, at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on the Saturday.
