Ellie Carpenter signs new deal with Lyon

Ellie Carpenter has signed a new contract with Olympique Lyonnais, that will see her stay with the reigning UWCL Champions until June 30, 2026, after inking a new four-year deal with the French Giants. 

The 22-year-old defender, who ruptured her ACL in Lyon's UWCL trumiph, will remain at the French-based side for four more seasons, after joining the side back in 2020.

Carpenter talked about the contract renewal, "I am very honoured to extend my contract at this magnificent club. I learned a lot during these first two years and now I'm here until 2026!"

"I'm injured right now but I'm working hard to get back on the pitch and win titles again."

The defender's rehab process has begun in Lyon, with one eye on next year's home FIFA Women's World Cup.

Carpenter has already had a memorable two-year stint with Lyon, winning 2 Champions Leagues, 1 French championship and 1 French Cup with the club. 


Sonia Bompastor, in just her second season at the helm lead Lyon to an undefeated run in the Division 1 Féminine, which saw them reclaim the title from Paris Saint-Germain Féminine.

Lyon have already qualified for next season's UWCL, after finishing first in the league, with news that Mary Fowler has made the move from the French league to the WSL in England, Carpenter will be flying the Australian flag in the league.
