Can Fowler make the perfect start in front of the home fans and end their Victory hoodoo?

A place that struck fear into visiting teams in years gone by, Suncorp Stadium hasn’t had the same intimidatory feel in recent seasons, especially for Melbourne Victory.

The Navy Blues came to Brisbane twice last season and left with six points and nine goals in two crushing defeats for the home side.

If Roar are to have success in 2019/20, home form will be key and what better way to draw a line in the sand than to win the first game in front of the orange faithful.

The fact it comes against Hyundai A-League heavyweights Victory and also marks Robbie Fowler’s first home match only adds to the anticipation of this traditional blockbuster.

Will Roar get another one over the defending champions in Sydney?

If evidence was needed to prove that Fowler’s Roar rebuild is on the right track, then we saw it first hand in the FFA Cup 2019 Round of 32.

Up against defending Hyundai A-League Champions — and three-time FFA Cup finalists — Sydney FC, the boys from Brisbane left the Harbour City with a 2-0 win and a major scalp.

But the sign of a really good team is to back-up major results consistently and Roar will need to produce another performance of spirit and determination in the lead-up to Christmas.

What reception will a Roar star receive on his first return to his former club?

He was a fan favourite for two seasons in the Hunter, but Roy O’Donovan will be public enemy number 1 when he returns to Newcastle with the Roar just after Christmas.

The Irish striker’s goals fired the Jets to the 2018 Grand Final and there was a belief he would stay with the club but, a deal could not be struck, and now O’Donovan is wearing orange.
