Despotovski - Glory ready to pounce on 'under pressure' Wanderers

In-form Perth Glory are a force to be reckoned with right now and Bobby Despotovski is determined to sign off in style against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday evening.

Following their 3-1 reverse in Western Sydney on January 19, Glory have beaten Newcastle Jets (4-2), Brisbane Roar (4-2) and most impressively, reigning Champions Sydney FC (2-1).

A bumper crowd in Bunbury is anticipated as Glory target a fourth consecutive win against a Wanderers team clinging on to their position in the top four. 

The Red and Black entered the New Year on top of the Westfield W-League ladder but four defeats in five have the Wanderers entering Saturday's fixture needing a win to guarantee their participation in the Finals Series. 

"... Western Sydney, they are obviously going to be under a lot of pressure because they're hanging on to fourth position and if Brisbane beat Melbourne City and we beat Wanderers, they'll be out of the top four," Despotovski told the club's official website.

"So they have to get something out of the game and that means they will press for the result, which will hopefully open up a few opportunities for us."

He added: "In terms of our own form, it's good to see that everything we've worked on in the last three or four months is coming to fruition.

"Now they're seeing that it works, the players are buying into the philosophy.

"We have always said to the girls that they have nothing to lose and to go out and show us what they can do, play within the structure and express themselves; that's been the message all along."

The 2018/19 Grand Finalists endured a tough start to the campaign but have well and truly hit their stride at the tail end of the campaign. 

Despotovski this is due to the defensive structure he has instilled from day dot.

"At the start of the season, we struggled a bit in front of goal, but as it's progressed, we've been finding goals from everywhere on the park, with defenders and midfielders chipping in and the strikers scoring.

"So we're getting goals from everywhere and we're in a good spot at this moment in time."

Perth have won five of their previous six fixtures against the Wanderers at home. 

They will leapfrog Canberra United and finish sixth on the ladder if they beat the Red and Black.
