The Cup of Nations began with a bang on Thursday night as the Westfield Matildas and Korea Republic emerged victorious at Leichhardt Oval.

Korea Republic kicked off proceedings with a dominant 5-0 win over Argentina with Ji Soyun netting a double for the East Asian outfit.

Then, the Westfield Matildas took centre stage and defeated the Football Ferns 2-0 courtesy of goals to Emily Gielnik and Hayley Raso.
