Cameron Devlin named Player of the Month for December

Wellington Phoenix midfielder Cameron Devlin has capped an impressive start to life in New Zealand by claiming the Hyundai A-League Player of the Month award for December.

The 21-year-old, who moved across the ditch from Sydney FC in the off-season in pursuit of more first-team opportunities, enjoyed an outstanding string of performances last month as the Kiwi club extended their unbeaten run.

Wellington started the month by beating Adelaide United (2-1) and Western Sydney Wanderers (2-1), before collecting back to back draws against Melbourne Victory (0-0) and Sydney FC (2-2), and accounting for Western United (3-1).

After making substitute cameos against Adelaide and Western Sydney, Wellington boss Ufuk Talay - Devlin's former mentor at Sydney FC - handed the midfielder his maiden Hyundai A-League start in the absence of vice-captain Alex Rufer against Melbourne Victory.

Devlin grabbed his chance in sensational fashion and made more touches, passes, duels, interceptions and tackles than any other Phoenix player in those three December matches he started against Victory, Sydney and Western United.
