Burgess latest to confirm Phoenix departure

Wellington Phoenix have lost another member of their Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season Finals Series squad with confirmation playmaker Max Burgess will depart the club.

Having lost goalkeeper Filip Kurto, who was on Monday named as the Hyundai A-League's best gloveman for 2018/19, and coach Mark Rudan, now Burgess' time in New Zealand is also up.

The 24-year old joined Wellington at the start of the campaign after impressing Rudan with his form with NSW NPL champions Sydney Olympic in 2018.

Burgess featured in 23 games for the Phoenix this season - making seven starts - and had two assists for the campaign.

"I've had the opportunity of playing with a great group of footballers and it's been an absolute privilege wearing the Wellington Phoenix shirt and living in this fantastic city," Burgess said on Phoenix's official website.

"I'm very grateful to the club and the fans for their incredible support throughout the year, so thank you to everyone."

Burgess will officially end his time with the club following Phoenix's annual end-of-season Awards Ceremony next Wednesday.
