Broich wins inaugural ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award

FFA proudly announce Brisbane Roar FC’s Thomas Broich as the inaugural winner of the ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) proudly announce Brisbane Roar FC-s Thomas Broich as the inaugural winner of the ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award.

Broich was crowned the winner by fans and an esteemed Green Card Panel of sports and media personalities, beating nominees Jerrard Tyson (Western Sydney Wanderers FC) and Leigh Broxham (Melbourne Victory FC) for the inaugural prize.

Thomas has an impressive fairer play record - he hasn-t been shown a yellow card the entire season, his temperament and attitude on the field have been exemplary, and he is heavily involved in Brisbane Roar-s community program with Mission Australia.

A joint initiative by the Hyundai A-League and ME Bank, the award recognises and rewards significant gestures of fairer play within the Hyundai A-League community both on and off the field.

FFA CEO David Gallop paid tribute to Broich as the inaugural winner of the ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award.

“While players are most often judged by their skill, goals and flair, football clubs exist because they represent their members, fans and the local community,” he said.

“This season Thomas Broich exhibited all of these attributes, inspiring moments of brilliance on the pitch and with acts of true sportsmanship and community spirit.”

ME Bank CEO, Jamie McPhee, congratulated Broich as the first player to win the ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award.

“The Award embodies our belief that all Australians deserve a ‘fair go-, whether it-s on the football field, in the community, or in banking.

“We-ve had a fantastic response to the Award with more than 2000 people voting for the winner. We-re looking forward to rolling out the same Award to grassroots clubs around Australia.”

The grassroots program kicks off this season encouraging fairer play within junior football leagues across Australia.

For winning the ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award, Thomas receives $10,000, thanks to ME Bank, to donate to his grassroots club of choice, Brisbane Force Football Club.
