Brisbane Roar star Thomas Broich is battling a corked thigh but coach Mike Mulvey is confident the German will play in the A-League clash against Perth Glory.

With in-form midfielder Ivan Franjcic already ruled out with a side strain, Broich has trained away from the main group this week after suffering a knock in Brisbane's 2-1 loss to Adelaide United last weekend.

"Ivan, I've probably put a pen through his name already. We need to give him time to recover properly," Mulvey said.

"Thomas I'm more hopeful for. He definitely wants to play. That's the first point - you've got to be strong in your mind.

"Knowing him, his powers of recovery and determination, there's a good chance he'll be fit."

The Roar will train again in Brisbane on Thursday, the same day the team makes the cross-continent flight to Western Australia.

"We think we've got it down pat now with Perth," he said.

"One of the hardest things with travelling is the training facilities ... that makes an impact so we'll do our training here before we travel.

"There's been a fair bit of upheaval in Perth but I know (Glory coach) Ken Lowe well ... he's a very passionate man and that's been shown already. He's very organised and it seems like the ship has been righted.

"This is going to be a tough game for us, no doubt about it."
