Brisbane Roar unveil new club crest

Three-time Hyundai A-League Champions Brisbane Roar have unveiled a new club crest ahead of the 2014-15 season.

Brisbane Roar has competed under the former crest since the inception of both the club and competition in 2005.

Recent research conducted by the club showed members and those closest to the club wanted a more traditional crest to represent the three-time Hyundai A-League Champions and two-time Westfield W-League Champions on the world football stage.

Managing Director Sean Dobson explained the new crest reflected the club’s quest for future success while embracing the rich history in its first decade of existence.

“As a football club, we recognise the importance of acknowledging our history, both the trials and the successes, in order to develop into a stronger organisation,” he said.

“The brief was to come up with a club crest that highlights the elements of a traditional football club while maintaining our strong identity.

“It was made very clear to us that our members were not interested in changing our name or the colour orange.”

On the new club crest, the iconic lion has been retained in the form of a full body to reflect the importance of a wider club community that includes members, fans, the city of Brisbane and the state of Queensland – not just the team.

The colour scheme has also been simplified to showcase the orange which has become synonymous with the club and its on-field success.

The club name is now emblazoned on banners that surround the lion, representing the colour and life that Brisbane Roar members and supporters bring to all aspects of club life.

Brisbane Roar has also confirmed that from the start of the upcoming season the club’s apparel partner will ensure the club crest is stitched into the kit, reminding those who represent the club the significance of the orange jersey.

“Brisbane Roar is still the same club and after 10 years, we are in a strong position to keep developing and set ourselves up for the next 10 years,” Dobson explained.

“Between our Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League teams, we are the most successful football club in Australia and we need to maintain our strong vision and exceed our own high standards on the field, off the field and in the community.”

The new Brisbane Roar crest will be gradually rolled out before the start of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season in October, however it will start to appear on all official club communications, online and in our social media outlets and signage.
