‘He’s such a hungry player’ – Moon believes Roar hotshot Wenzel-Halls can get better and better

Brisbane Roar coach Warren Moon feels Dylan Wenzel-Halls is only getting started after the in-form striker’s double put Adelaide United to the sword.

Wenzel-Halls’ perfectly guided header put the Queenslanders in front at Dolphin Stadium and his stinging long-range effort clinched a 3-1 win over the Reds on Saturday to send Roar top of the A-League.

The 23-year-old has netted four goals in four A-League games this season to surge to the top of the Golden Boot standings, after only scoring seven in 41 competition appearances prior to this campaign.

Moon was delighted with his team’s performance in their third win of the season and the Brisbane coach reserved special place for a young local frontman that he insists can keep on improving.

When asked how much more there is to come from Wenzel-Halls, Moon said: “I think lots more.

“I won’t go into everything now but we talk all the time about things we can work on and improve on and I think Dylan is really, really self-aware of what he needs to do.

“But he’s really, really hungry to improve as a player and that’s the one thing I say about him, he’s such a hungry player to improve and be better.”

“I’m sure that, as he gets more and more confidence, we’ll start to see an even better Dylan.”

Adelaide may have missed the absent Tomi Juric and Stefan Mauk in Redcliffe but Reds coach Carl Veart was still left scratching his searching for a solution to his team’s away-day woes.

“It’s two away games now where we haven’t put in a very good performance,” Veart said, following a 5-3 reverse a Perth Glory in Matchweek 4.

“It’s something we need to have a look at, I know we’ve got a lot of younger players.

“But we need to fix those problems but we can’t turn up and play that first half like we did.

“It makes it very difficult when you allow teams that much space and that much time.”
